The Final Conference organized within Epicuro project was a great success! The conference was held on December 6th 2018 in London, organized and hosted by project partner TCPA, and it has seen the participation of important speakers bringing its knowledge and experience about climate change adaptation.
After welcoming speeches by Diane Smith (TCPA) and Trevor Goode (Ashurst), Alberto Maria Rigon (Municipality of Vicenza) introduced the project to the audience, while Michael Chang (TCPA) presented the project strategic approach within Local Adaptation Strategy Plans.
Dr Hugh Ellis (TCPA) discussed keynote address on global and local resilience challenges and Ece Ozdemiroglu (Member of the UK Climate Change Committee, Adaptation Sub-Committee) presented the UK strategy for climate change adaptation.
During the conference, consortium representatives discussed key aspects and actions of Epicuro. George Boustras (European University Cyprus) explained how to identify and evaluate good practices and presented one good practice that is transferable across the five cities of EPICURO.
Alessandro Attolico (Potenza Province) described the importance of different audiences – stakeholders and the community- different techniques for awareness-raising, and also the ‘transferability’ of the toolkit across cities facing different climate challenges, and different political and socio-economic structures.
Anda Jekabsone (Ekodoma) explained that monitoring and evaluation is a continuous process, underling that SWOT and baselines surveys should be reviewed, as well as the climate challenges, as key part of the LASP process.
Fabio Cestonaro (Environment department, City of Vicenza) brought the Vicenza project experience, practical ways in which a LASP can be developed and also how the LASP will influence in the future.
The conference concluded with a panel discussion about the key lesson from the project and follow up actions, with the participation of Gabriel Plesa (Vice Mayor, Alba Iulia), Ilze Podniece (Senior expert at department of climate change, The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Latvia), Mareks Kalniņš (Salaspils Municipality, Executive director), Anja Daugaard (City Council Member and Chair of Vifin, Vejle) and Alberto Maria Rigon (Environment department, City of Vicenza).
Moreover, Ignasi Fontanals (CEO, OPTICITS) presented the case study of Hazur experience in Vicenza, as pilot action organized within the Epicuro project.
A Parliamentary Reception in the Houses of Parliament (Westminster) was organized, with reception speeches by Dr Roberta Blackman-Woods MP and political representatives from partner cities.
